Had this entertaining sci-fi drama ended at its more logical and natural finishing point, about half an hour and 2000 years before its actual ending, it may have been quite something special; as it is, this tale of a robot boy, programmed to love his mother without reservation, cast out alone into the world, is merely a highly pleasurable diversion.
