Although technically dazzling and historically fascinating, Riefenstahl’s propaganda film – documenting the Reich Party Congress of 1934, with its multiple scenes of uniformed drones marching and saluting and lapping up the hate-filled messages of patriotism and obedience spouted at them – leaves something of an acidulous taste.
