A handsome young Italian-American major (with a surprising amount of common sense for a military man) is assigned to restore order to the small Italian town of Adano during the American occupation towards the end of the Second World War, but things don’t run smoothly, in this diverting comedy-drama, hampered somewhat by a wildly inconsistent tone, which can boast of one or two very nice comic moments.
