A convicted drug dealer, about to start a seven year sentence at a tough prison, spends his final 24 hours of freedom with family and friends, doing his best not to think about the likely ordeal to come, in Spike Lee’s gripping and very human film which, despite Blanchard’s occasionally intrusive score, works well as both personal drama and post 9/11 allegory.
